The one thing I love about starting my 21 Day Fix
is that I'm never at any point during the day "hangry" or starving. I try to eat every 2-3 hours and I try to make healthy choices. But sometimes you get tired of the same old snacks like celery and peanut butter and you want something new and yummy! Here are some of my "go-to" snacks that keep me satisfied and help me along the way!
3 Ingredient Pancakes
These aren't your ordinary pancakes. They are so simple to make, you won't believe it. 3 ingredients: eggs, bananas, and grains. That's it! The above pancakes are made with flaxseed (which is awesome) but I like to use oatmeal. I make these in large batches and then store them in my freezer or fridge for a quick snack all week. You can top them with nuts, chocolate chips, fruit, or craisins while they cook to add some variety. Make them small (no bigger than 3-4 inches) to help with portion control. Strawberries and Cinnamon
Strawberries are a sweet treat and I try to save my sweet treats for the evening. I love strawberries but sometimes want to dress them up a bit without adding more calories. My favorite thing to do is squeeze a little bit of lime juice and add a dash of cinnamon to them. Once you try it you will be hooked!
Cucumbers and Hummus
This snack has been my go-to lately. Cucumbers have tons of health benefits! I buy the English cucumbers because they have a great crunch and pair nicely with hummus. You can make your own hummus or purchase some. Hummus goes a long way, so I don't feel like I need very much for a snack.
This is by far my favorite snack, especially in the summer! Frozen blueberries are not only super easy to have on hand, but really good for you! If I am feeling like something sweet during the day, I grab a handful of blueberries and feel satisfied.
I used to be pretty skeptical of these, but tried my first one a couple of months ago and was hooked! These are great if you have a busy lifestyle. Pop one in before a workout or in the afternoon for a pick-me-up. Be creative with your ingredients when making them. Kale chips.What can I say? Some people love them and some people don't. I LOVE them. I have a thing for chips. Before I started eating clean, I would have a sandwich and eat a TON of potato chips with it. Now if I want something salty with a light crunch I go to my kale chips. You can make your own very easily or purchase some from the organic section in your grocery store. If you haven't tried them, give it a try. You might really like them!
I have a friend (she know's who she is) who eats avocado toast religiously. When I am eating clean I don't typically turn to bread for a snack. But there are some really healthy breads out there like the Ezekiel brand or multi-grain bread that are good options. Make sure to read the label! Toast your bread and spread your mashed avocado on top. With a sprinkle of pepper, you are good to go. I plan to add this on top of my morning egg! Yum!
If you don't know what PB2
is, then get with the program! If you love peanut butter (I'm a peanut butter freak) but don't love all the calories that come along with it, then this product is for you! It comes in a powder form that you simply mix with water and then dig in! I like mine just as pictured above. It's perfect with apples or pears. Don't forget the dash of cinnamon!
I've never been a huge fan of eating nuts until recently. Almonds have a massive amount of nutrients. Just a small handful a day can be beneficial. I love to put some in a ziplock bag and keep it in my purse, that way if I am out and about and start to feel hungry I will be prepared. They are great for curbing your hunger and help with your weight loss journey.
Can you tell I like all my snacks to be crunchy... ? I started eating crispy chickpeas almost a year ago and I love the texture and the salty taste. You can bake your own at home or buy some.
