Homemade Back To School Magnets

Posted by Tara

School is in full swing is some parts of the state this week! It came too fast! For me, I feel like as soon as school starts I am bombarded with papers and art work. Today I am sharing a simple craft that the kids will love and can be used as gifts as well.

You will need:
Glass Gems
Clip Art of your choice or scrapbook paper
Magnets
Glue or Glue Gun
Scissors
Mod Podge
Sponge Brush
Colored Paper

You will first want to cut out your clip art or pieces of scrap book paper. You can trace around the gem, just make sure when you cut the paper to do it smaller than the line.

Step 1- After you have cut your paper, you will want to apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to your gem.
Step 2- Apply paper cut out and smooth out. Let Dry 15-20 mins. Then apply another layer of Mod Podge. Let dry.
Step 3- Once dry, put a dab of glue in the center of the gem.
Step 4- Add magnet to glue and let cure 24 hours. If using glue gun, you can use immediately.

After it has dried start using these adorable magnets! You can add whatever images you want.. school mascot, designs and pictures of your kids. You can gift them to your child's teacher or even better to the grand-parents (they love hanging art on their refrigerators).

The kids will love participating in this craft and picking out what they want their magnets to look like! Let me know if you have any questions and HAPPY CRAFTING!!

Great idea. The image possibilities are endless. Hmm...wonder how my kids would feel if I used pictures of them. Hee.
