Road Tripping: Keeping Kids Happy & Busy While Travelling
Posted by Devin
Last week we took the boys on a road trip to San Diego with Gus, our vintage travel trailer. We had SO. MUCH. FUN! Our family was in serious need of a getaway and this trip was just the ticket. Nothing like some cooler weather and a beautiful beach to get you back to feeling balanced and refreshed!
I love a good road trip too, but I have to admit that it's not always easy with kiddos in the back seat who are restless and bored and wanting to know "Are we there yet?". Tablets and movies are ok when you are trying to appease the little people, but sometimes you want them to look away from the screens and engage in something more interactive and creative. Just before we left for our trip, Cash had his LEGO-themed, 5th birthday party (see his easy-to-make LEGO brownies below?) and received a LEGO Juniors Suitcase for one of his presents. We knew right away we were going to be taking this on our trip.
Have you ever heard of LEGO Juniors? LEGO® JUNIORS is designed to give children age 4-7 a great first building experience with the LEGO brick through iconic, fun and easy to build models. The LEGO Juniors Suitcase was the perfect travel companion for Cash. It kept him happy and entertained on our entire drive to San Diego. He had so much fun building the motorcycle, helicopter, and base station from the assortment of LEGO bricks in this fire-themed suitcase. He was able to do it all right on his lap and it even kept his older brother entertained as he enjoyed helping out in the building process!
Once we arrived to our campground, Cash continued to play with the set whenever we had any down-time at the trailer. He even took it to dinner when we'd go out to eat! He'd play while we waited in line or for our food to arrive. It opened up a world of play possibilities everywhere we went! Here he is playing in the trailer having a ball with his LEGO set.
To complete Cash's amazing LEGO birthday, we spent one of our vacation days visiting Legoland California. All of the boys had such a great time. I think the city models made entirely of LEGOs in Miniland was their favorite part of the day!
I can't wait for our next road trip in Gus! I know Cash will for sure be bringing along his cute little red suitcase again to keep him occupied and engaged in something so fun and creative while we travel. I hope you all have wonderful summer vacations as well!I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
