All That Glitters Is Gold

Posted by Devin

Is it just me, or has gold been OUT over the last decade or so. I know I didn't wear it much. Even my wedding ring is white gold because getting a yellow gold ring was definitely NOT in style back in the day. Sheesh, I never knew my wedding ring could reflect the time Jake purchased it for me! Am I going to one day say, "Oh my ring is SO 2000."??? Hopefully it's simple pave style will remain timeless, but if it doesn't, I won't care. Love my ring either way. Ok, totally off the subject now. Back to gold...

Over the past few years, the gold trend has been turning. And to my surprise, I am super happy about it! I am loving all things gold lately! So this week I decided to show a simple outfit that highlights some of my favorite gold accessories. Including these totally awesome Steve Madden heels. You should see how they glitter in the sun!

Besides the shoes, I added some dangly gold earrings, a gold medallion necklace, and some gold bangles on my wrist. Thanks to my relatively simple outfit of a tunic-style white shirt and jeans, I thought all the gold worked.

And I have to mention my hair. This chunky side braid was a new style for me. Do you follow Barefoot Blonde? If you like fashion and hair and make-up ideas, Amber's blog is a great read. She always looks lovely and has great inspiration for all things beauty and fashion.

Since I am always drooling over Amber's braids, I decided to give this one a shot! Click here for the tutorial on her blog.

My braid didn't turn out quite as chunky and loose as BFB's, but I didn't use hair extensions like she suggests which add to the braid thickness. When it comes down to it, I am still a pretty no-frills girl and I can't get myself to dabble in hair extensions or fake eyelashes or spray tans... I mean, I just barely started using lipstick, folks! But despite the lack of extensions, I was still super happy with this braid, especially for my first try, and plan on doing it again soon.

What are your thoughts on gold and chunky side braids? In? Out? Good? Bad? And please don't mention the fact that if I'm not going to spray tan, I need to get some more sun. Yes, I'm pale, I know. But it's still winter, right?!! Cut a girl some slack. ;) Besides, I am still the SALT to this salt and pepper duo.

Gold Accessories - Charming Charlie
White Blouse - Target (similar)
Skinny Jeans - Old Navy (similar)

Those gold shoes are really pretty, and I love the side french braid as a hairstyle, I've done it on longer-haired people before!

Hi beautiful Salt and Pepper Moms. I am Ada - a new Mom myself. I just recently discovered your blog through link ups and I am glad I stopped by. One can never go wrong with Jeans and a White button-down, especially if you add glitery gold shoes and pretty jewelry. Your braid is gorgeous. Show us how you do it, please.

I welcome you to stop by my blog now. I am your latest fan & follower. I'd love your support in following me back. Thanks. =)

I am a huge fan of Gold,Silver, you name it. My ring is also Gold circa 1997...dating myself, but I wanted a classic and traditional ring.

Your outfit is super cute and the pumps are such a fun way to add a bit of "sparkle" to it.

I love that gold is a thing now, even though not that long ago I was very anti-gold. I do however, prefer the though of a white gold wedding ring as opposed to gold. I really like how you styled your hair in these pictures.

I love the braid! So cute! I can never seem to make my braids look very chunky either, but yours is good! And I am having the same reaction to gold as you are... I find that I actually like it. But when it was engagement ring time there was absolutely NO WAY I was going to get yellow gold because it was so ugly hahaha. I do love my ring though :)

Found you from the link up!

I love the braid - my hair is just not quite long enough to do a cute braid with. Trying to grow out a bob from 2 yrs ago!

First off, you look amazingly gorgeous and if gold wasn't in, you've made it in.
Secondly, I've always loved gold and side braids and would sport them through the years. Sometimes my decor seems to go to that end too. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I'm glad it seems to be a returning trend ;)

Love the sparkly heels! I think some people just prefer silver or white gold to yellow gold and that's okay :)

Great set of jewelries, Devin! I believe gold is still a hit, but its variations make it hard to distinguish it. Others prefer to use white gold, right? Anyway, I think you have to wear gold more often. It definitely suits you. :)

You are lucky to have hair long and thick enough to pull off the side braid! It's not really an option for me so my only opinion on it is envy. :) And I agree about gold...I was anti-gold for years, then I started warming up to it last year, and now I'm fully embracing it. I really prefer it when BOTH metals are in so I can just wear whatever goes best with my outfit. Thanks for linking up today! -Gina

Oh I love your side braid a lot, and truly don't think it needs extensions! And I completely agree - I used to always hate anything gold. It always felt tacky and old fashioned. But now, I'm pretty sure I wear more gold than silver! Love your look - especially the shoes!
Thanks so much for coming back to Manic Monday!
